The White Russian
If it weren’t for The Big Lebowski this drink would probably have fallen slowly out of fashion along with many others of its era, but the Dude abides and therefore so does his drink.
Ingredients
30ml (1oz) vodka
20ml (2/3oz) coffee liqueur
10ml (1/3oz) Macadamia and Wattleseed liqueur (optional, but up the coffee liqueur if not)
30ml cream
Nutmeg to garnish (optional)
The original recipe calls for cream, although many people will make it with milk which obviously makes it less rich. If you’re using milk you could definitely lengthen it out a little without overpowering the other flavours.
Equipment
A jigger
A rocks glass
Good ice
Method
Add your vodka and liqueurs to the glass and place your large ice cube in.
Slowly pour the cream in over the ice if you want to create a layered effect, otherwise just add the cream with everything else.
Grate a little nutmeg over the top if you like, and serve.
Suggested Spirits
The vodka here is really just to act as the boozy backbone, we’ve used Ketel One because it’s in the Bomba rail - whatever your cheap and cheerful go to is will work, as long as it is crisp and clean.
Kahlua is, of course, the classic so that’s what we’ve gone for here.
We also used Mac by Brookie’s Macadamia and Wattleseed liqueur basically because it’s delicious and adds a beautiful toasted nut dimension, but it is entirely optional- just do equal parts vodka and coffee liqueur if you can’t find it.
